Vitamin C and it’s important role in skincare.

By l4s3rd34m inBlog

So much talk about vitamin C at the moment in the world of skincare, I’m sure you are wondering what exactly are the benefits of vitamin c for the skin?

Vitamin c is an anti-oxidant so it’s role in collagen synthesis is vital. Vitamin c helps to protect your skin from the effects of aging. It’s a potent anti-oxidant that can neutralise free radicals in the skin. Free radicals are atoms or molecules with an unpaired electron (for all you physics lovers!!) Free radicals damage the skin and cause aging.

Vitamin c helps your skin to repair itself and not only does it neutralise free radicals it can also reverse DNA damage. Research shows that vitamin c may also reduce sunburn caused by exposure to ultraviolet B radiation and can prevent consequences of long-term sun exposure.

There are so many vitamin c products on the market now that it can be very confusing which to choose so here are my own personal favourites:

A really good one to start with is Serum 10 by Skinceuticals. This is a potent serum which is applied every morning after your cleansing step.  Because of it’s potency it does not need to be applied at night The price point for this product reflects the efficacy of the serum and it’s the one serum I choose to recommend for my clients at m clinics with concerns about aging, fine lines, wrinkles, skin discolouration.

Once your skin has become familiar with Serum 10, I would highly recommend moving up the ladder to another anti-oxidant serum. Either CE Ferulic of Phloretin, your aesthetician will recommend either of these depending on your skin type. These products are the gold standard when it comes to antioxidant serums, you’ll find it hard to find better than these on the current market. The science behind these two serums is unbelievable.

If you’re a Murad skincare fan, then you’ll want to try their Vitamin C product that is currently extremely popular and getting superb reviews, it’s called Active Radiance Serum. This is a fast-acting serum with which you will see an improvement in the clarity and brightness in your skin after about one week of use. The texture of this product is very different to the Skinceuticals serums and many prefer it because it has a lovely silky feel on the skin. Definitely worth investing in to improve the radiance and luminousity of your skin.

This is just a brief overview of a couple of great vitamin c products on the market, as usual I would be recommending getting advice from your aesthetician before you splurge on any vitamin c products to make sure your skin is suitable.

More on the benefits of vitamin c coming up during the month of May so check back with us soon!

Love your skin
